Basic Waffles

A simple buttermilk waffle recipe. Usually makes 5 regular waffles and 1 franken-waffle in my waffle iron.

ingredients:

  • 2 cup A.P. flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • cup butter (melted) or vegetable oil
  • 1 ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  1. In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients.
  2. In a larger bowl, beat the eggs then add the remaining wet ingredients.
  3. Pour about half of the dry ingredient mix into the wet and whisk to combine. Add the remaining dry and whisk to combine — if the batter is too thick you may need to add additional buttermilk at this point. The batter should be thicker than pancake batter but still flow easily (as in into the waffle iron nooks and crannies).
  4. Ladle batter into your waffle iron and cook until golden brown, repeat until all batter has been used.
